Liquor Tanks

As we all know – finished beer is made up of roughly 90-95% water.

It is, therefore, very important to give your brewery the love that it needs with hot and cold liquor vessels!

Experienced brewers almost always tell us they would like to have more liquor on hand. This makes having a dedicated vessel for this vital.

Liquor tanks not only provide large volumes of set temperature liquor on demand for brew day. They also provide liquor for CIP purposes – and all other general purposes around the brewery.

Unfortunately, the poor liquor tanks do not get to see the bright lights like brewhouses and cellar vessels do! But don’t be fooled, they are equally as important.

Our approach to designing your liquor vessel starts with understanding your requirements and designing a solution that is right for you. We’re talking about the optimal size, heating method and configuration.

Here at Bespoke Brewing Solutions, we have run the gamut in terms of heating methods and designs for liquor tanks.

Whether you are worried about sight glass location or recirculation to prevent stratification – we take everything into consideration. This, of course, includes your specific requirements!

Tall and skinny? Or short and girthy! We make it work for your location.

Your Bespoke Solution

We take our experience – and your requirements – to design the best solution for you.

This even goes as far as piping for recirculation, filling, HEX return and liquor mixing to the brewhouse.

One benefit of a Hot Liquor Tank (HLT) when it comes to brew day is that you have the ability to control the temperature and flow of hot liquor into your mash/lauter vessel for initial mash – as well as sparge.

This is useful to achieve the correct temperatures of single infusion mashing and keeping your sparge liquor temps correct and consistent.

An added benefit that some brewers choose to utilize is gaining complete control over your water profile with the addition of acids, minerals, and salts directly into the brewday liquor.

As a brewer, it is important to have your water profile locked in for different beer styles. The dedicated vessel can be even more valuable if your water filtration utilizes RO (reverse osmosis) allowing you to recreate a perfect water profile to suit the style you are brewing.

Hot liquor can also be used for pasteurization and CIP. From cellar tanks, to your keg washer, having the ability of hot liquor at high temperature on demand is a big help for any brewday.

Bespoke Brewing Solutions almost always advises our clients/brewers to oversize your hot and cold liquor vessels simply because it is handy to have a lot of hot water around for different applications.

Another advantage is the ability to recapture cold liquor when passing from the Heat Exchanger.

Our standard pipework set up allows the liquor from the heat exchange to flow back to the HLT. So not only are you reducing water waste, but you are also collecting the temperature from the Heat Exchange, giving you high temp water for the next brew!

For those brewers that double batch brew, this can save a significant amount of energy and always be better than sending the liquor directly to drain.

‘Hands down – the difference between Bespoke Brewing Solutions and other competitors on market is their unique ability to design your equipment to suit your location. The equipment we’ve purchased in the past has not had the ability to be tailored specifically to the operation.’
