Hand & Malt Brewpub Project

Summary

Our Hand and Malt brewpub project is located in Seoul, South Korea. Hand and Malt are a brand owned by Oriental Brewery (OB), a subsidiary of AB InBev, and one of the front runners in the craft beer scene in South Korea. We provided a full turnkey solution for a 250L brewery located in a brewpub environment. This included a 3-vessel, manually operated, electric-heated brewhouse with wort sample station, hope back, HLT, FVs, BBTs, hot liquor switch panel to cellar, mobile pump, glycol chiller, banded brewery hose, washdown hose reels and installation.

Impact

This was an interesting project as we needed not only to deliver a fully functional and efficient designed brewery to a small space, but also make sure it was aesthetically pleasing to the client so they could not only make great beer, but also provide brewery tours to their customers.

Challenges

Initial challenge we came across was equipment access to the brewing area. The equipment had to be located on the basement level, which meant getting each vessel into the allocated space down a set of steps took some hard work and calculated movements. Second challenge was the language barrier. Working with local contractors, Chinese engineering team and English-speaking project managers meant communication was important, while at the same time challenging.

Bespoke Brewing Solutions Advantages

After previously working with Hand and Malt at their production facility in Seoul, we already had a great relationship with their team. Their team is comprised of industry professionals with many years of experience, therefore working together proved to be an excellent partnership on a new concept of the Hand and Malt Beer Lab.
